THE WESTERN HISTORIC AUTOMOBILE CLUB...

Coming soon to Plymouth, Devon, the Club will provide storage, working facilities and much more for owners of Historic Vehicles of all kinds, from Veterans of the late 19th Century to 'modern classics' of 40 years ago.

Members will be able to keep their cars at the extensive Club building, which has areas both for storage and for restoration and maintenance work - a safe, dry and warm place with 24/7 security.

There will be a dedicated Club Room for social use, exchanging knowledge and ideas and for Presentations on historic vehicles.

The Club will also have various stores and a kitchenette, all available to Members and included in the rates for full Members who keep their vehicles at the Club.

And what a range of vehicles we include! Veterans, motorcycles & combinations, vans, military vehicles, buses and cars of all varieties.

If this Club will be of use and interest to you, then please get in touch to express your interest - there is no obligation, of course, but you can put your name on the list for a place for your treasured vehicle(s).

Dependent to some extent on what  vehicles we are asked to accommodate, we can house up to sixty vehicles.

About the Club

The Club is being created for the benefit of Historic Vehicle Owners and to pass the torch of motoring heritage to the next generation through educational activities including visits and open days.

The designated Clubhouse is a large building in Plymouth where it will be possible not only for members to store vehicles but to meet up with other members and to help each other with maintenance and repairs. There is a wing where vehicles can be accommodated for restoration work, of necessity separated from the main hall.

There is a large room off the vehicle hall which is to be the Club Room - this can be used for refreshments and relaxation, but it is also to be used for Presentations - and we have a number of experts and companies providing special services who we will ask to give talks and demonstrations.

There will be a calendar of events - these can be anything from showing your vehicle(s) to visitors on designated Open Days, to joining with others in local rallies and events such as classic car shows.  Members will be invited to assist in organising various activities over the year.  #

To summarise, this will be a particularly active club - not only a place to store vehicles.

The photographs currently on this website are purely illustrative of the kinds and variety of vehicles we anticipate accommodating.  When the Club is fully operational, they will be replaced by photographs of Members' vehicles (subject to permission).

SUBSCRIPTIONS

Full Members are those who are keeping their vehicles at the Club House.

Subscriptions will depend on the size of vehicle concerned, ranging from c.£25 per week for a motorcycle, to c.£80 per week for a double-decker bus.

It is anticipated that most people will pay per month, in advance. It will be possible to substitute your vehicle for a different one in your ownership at short notice with no extra charge.

Full Members will have access to all facilities including (as soon as procured) a substantial vehicle lift - all included in the subscription rate.

All Full Members will carry passes.

SECURITY

Many vehicles will be valuable or potentially valuable and in view of this, it is planned to have 24/7 security including CCTV and manning.  However, it will be each Member's duty and obligation to properly insure their vehicle(s).

We are Historical Club and in keeping with tradition, Members will not use 'Apps' or 'QR Codes' for entry but will have a security pass, with photograph, signature of the issuer and embossed stamp.

It is anticipated that the Club will be have a receptionist and that the Club House will be open most afternoons and evenings and other times by special arrangement (e.g. to access or move a particular vehicle).

ASSOCIATES

It will be possible to join as an Associate Member.  This will be on an annual subscription and will allow access to the vehicle hall and clubroom during opening hours.

Associate Members will be able to bring their vehicles in on a daily basis (subject to space) for carrying out maintenance tasks from £15 per day; some 'extras' may apply.  It will be necessary to book in advance.

Associate Members will also carry passes.

STORES & TOOLS

It is planned to build up a store of frequently needed parts (for sale at cost to Members) - such as spark plugs, rotor arms, various commonly used nuts and bolts, light bulbs etc.  There is a suitable lockable store room for this.

Also, although in the main Members will be expected to bring their own tools for maintaining their vehicle(s), it is planned to keep some specific 'occasional use' tools - particularly the heavier ones - for booking out as required. These could be anything from pipe-bending kit to large hydraulic jacks, ramps and stands.
